The idea that inspired and sparked the development of StriveWell was not one born out of a potentially lucrative project, use of our site is free. StriveWells journey began in September 2004, when I received the heartbreaking news that my father was diagnosed with stage 3 prostate cancer. Being a layperson with no background knowledge about human health and medicine, I felt totally helpless and constantly plagued by fears of the unknown, both of the disease and of the fate of my fathers health. It wasn't much help that we were separated by 8,000 miles of land and sea, where dealing with a crisis of this proportion ate out a tremendous amount of emotional and mental strength. At the same time, I was also furious that it was discovered so late, when he has always been diligent about his medical checkups. His PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen a protein marker secreted by the prostate gland, where increased levels are predictive of prostate cancer) was allowed to slip under the radar of one underestimating doctor.

This sent me on a crusade to read every book and website to learn more about prostate cancer, hoping to learn as much about available treatments and its side effects, success rates and other related information as quickly as possible. What I gathered on the internet was astounding. Little did I previously know, millions of people worldwide; doctors, scientists, patients and their families who in one way or another have walked this path before offered immeasurable support, valuable information, advice and motivational strength to their new fellow comrade in the battle against cancer. These people stressed on the importance of objectified medical reporting to show factual information and clear presentation of the situation as is, to improve communication with ones physician in efforts to arrive at the best possible outcome.

From all the precious lessons I've learnt; the importance of keeping close tabs on your medical health records, gathering scientifically justified information, effective communication between family and friends, I would like to pass on to you. It is in my best hope to not only encourage the sharing of these avenues to empower more people to take proactive steps in managing their health but also contribute to a growing supportive, informative and interactive network of people who put health first by learning from each other.

This site is dedicated to the wonderful people behind The Prostate Cancer Research Insitute and ProstatePointers.org , Los Angeles, CA and most of all to my father and family for the blessed win against the disease.
